Owner and Executive Director of Massage Therapy Works Inc. Richard received his basic training from the prestigious Muscular Therapy Institute in Cambridge in 1995. His initial fascination with structural alignment began while working with ballet & modern dancers at the Dance Complex in Central Square Cambridge.
With Richard, no two bodywork or massage experiences are alike. His massages are like interpretive dances in that each one grows out of the messages of the muscles, the energy of the moment, the physical and energetic responses of his client. His approach to resolving chronic pain issues due to an injury is not only creative and individual, but also highly skillful.
Having been a ballroom dancer for 20-plus years Richard naturally understands how to connect energetically and listen to a client's body via movement. He has a natural gift for sensing how an underlying structural imbalance is impacting the body and which approach to use to help change the soft-tissue architecture of the body. The goal of every session is for the client to experience the ease of movement of their shoulder, knee, back or hip without any pain.
Intuitively, he knows what amount of muscle pressure will be healing, and he focuses his movements carefully to optimize the goal of bringing you not only relief from your pain but also restoring balance -- structurally and energetically. Richard was recognized in The Improper Bostonian magazine (October 11 - 24, 2006) for his unique approach to healing structural inbalances which he has been developing throughout his career as a bodyworker.
Trained in Therapeutic massage, CranioSacral Therapy, Deep Tissue massage, Prenatal massage, Sports Injury massage, Positional Release, Soft tissue Mobilization, Neuromuscular masssage , and Structural Integration. Richard also has had instruction in Visceral Manipulation (abdominal massage) and Shiatsu.
