You don't have to be an athlete to go in for a sports massage. This variation on the Swedish technique can increase your range of motion and speed recovery of sore muscles whether you're a seasoned jock or just starting an exercise program. Get one before a workout to loosen you up and help protect against injuries, or get one soon after to reduce soreness.
A sports massage therapist may use their forearm or the palm of their hand to bear down on the muscles in your legs and back to separate and relax them and their fingers to put direct pressure on a muscle in spasm, which can be painful but will reduce your pain later. If you're a runner, they might concentrate on your legs; if you're a swimmer, they might spend more time on your upper body.

Very effective if you’ve strained a muscle and limited (and possibly painful) movement is the result. Quite different from “Massage with Extra Pressure” our Deep Tissue Massage focuses on releasing muscle restrictions (adhesions) and rebalancing structural tension (holding patterns) running through the several layers of soft tissue (muscle). Requires a much slower pace than our “Therapeutic Massage” and more than one session is usually necessary for better results and/or resolution.

People in all phases of the journey through cancer can benefit from healing touch and carefully tailored massage therapy. Oncology massage can help manage symptoms and side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, including pain, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and depression. Most of all, oncology massage is a nurturing experience designed to restore your sense of positive touch and an integrated body which helps encourage your body’s healing process. Susannah’s style of oncology massage incorporates gentle strokes, energy work and guided meditation to encourage deep relaxation of the body, mind and spirit. The mental and emotional stresses of dealing with cancer can begin with diagnosis, wax and wane throughout treatment, and sometimes linger even after a full recovery. Massage is a way of taking time out to care for your whole self during this often grueling, always individual process. There are only a few instances where touch is contraindicated for a cancer patient, but Susannah will work with you and your doctor to learn exactly what is the right level of massage for you at any point during your treatment and recovery. In order to determine the length and style of your initial massage session you will need to have a 15-minute phone interview with Susannah. Your doctor's approval may also be necessary. Please contact our office to discuss your needs with Susannah before making your initial appointment.
You may also fill out our oncology massage form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Neuromuscular Facilitation bodywork/massage uses gentle, rhythmic movement and traction for various injuries such as whiplash, lower back or shoulder problems, as well as some general sports injuries. An incredibly effective re-patterning technique which works with the mind/body’s automatic need to protect itself from further injury. Specific gentle movements generated by the therapist are designed to influence the brain (stem) to re-evaluate “what-once-was” and permit a greater range of motion through the various joints. Some techniques may be performed fully-clothed if requested. Resultant benefits include reduction of pain, greater flexibility, and increased vitality.

Rehab Myotherapy focuses on acute and chronic areas of pain due to injury or serious muscle strain. It utilizes: Soft Tissue Release, BioEnergy Synchronization, Neuromuscular Facilitation, Active Isolated Stretching, Trigger Point therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, and oftentimes Deep Tissue Massage. During the course of the treatments there is an unwinding [undoing] of "old tissue patterns" which are responsible for having created the current pain originally. The therapist's goal is to help reorganize [rebalance] your connective tissue and nervous system in order to allow for a more efficient and mechanically correct way of using your body. Generally requires several sessions to be effective.

It is important for an athlete to understand that the axial spinal reflexes are responsible for muscle and ligament contraction and dysfunction. Prolonged muscle & ligament contractions and muscle hypertonicity, caused by soft tissue strains, trauma or surgery, often results in: muscle weakness, fatigue, spasms, aberant joint motion, trigger points, and soft tissue fibrosis.
Spinal Reflex Analysis focuses on your specific neuromusculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Resolving the soft tissue strain can have significant effects on your health and physical performance, improving your balance, coordination, and recovery time.
Chronic pain syndromes are often a result of secondary muscles tightening up in response to a primary muscle's inability to do a task without fear of further injury and additional pain. Spinal Reflex Analysis has had much success with resolving chronic pain syndromes.

This treatment is a rhythmic full-body treatment that begins with a dry silk glove exfoliation (garshana) and is followed by the application of herbalized oils specific to your imbalances. The strokes and healing properties of the oils, simulate energy points on the body - allowing for calming of the nerves, guiding toxins out of the body, and overall body balancing. The upper body's lymphatic system is worked briefly with the breasts exposed. This is a wonderfully healing and integral part of the treatment. I wish to be sensitive to those who are uncomfortable with this exposure and will adjust the treatment accordingly. Please let me know of any concerns you have. Your scalp will be oiled as well, so be prepared to shower if you have later plans (or bring a scarf/hat).

A rapid, vigorous oil treatment technique, similar to Abhyanga, yet more deeply detoxifying. Treatment begins with a dry silk glove exfoliation (garshana) and is followed by the application of herbal oil specific to your imbalances. This treatment is designed to activate circulation and more deeply stimulate your lymphatic system and is good for those who have already experienced Abhyanga and would like a deeper level of cleansing. The deepest of the detoxifying treatments offered, this combines the deep heat of stones with Ayurvedic principles. The stones are heated in a warm water bath and applied to your body with 100% organic jojoba oil. My primary focus is anchoring your first and second chakras, then directing energy out of the body. It includes a foot massage with lemon and salt, followed by Castor oil, softening tough skin. This deeply calms the nervous system, increases circulation, and encourages the lymphatic system to remove toxins. You will feel deeply grounded and centered afterwards. The materials used and layout of each stone makes this massage distinctively Ayurvedic.
